Great Site.
Just started removing old patio slabs to replace them with Stonemarkets Millstone Flags.I am re-excavating the site so all hardcore and sharp sand is coming up.?
i have been sieving the sharp sand as i go along - removing any bits and pieces.My question is this:- Is it ok to use the sand again or am i wasting my time and energy trying to recycle the sand.

You certainly can re-use the sand, but I'm not sure why youre sieving it all.
If there are any undesirables in the sand, they will be particles bigger than around 10-15mm. You should be able to spot them by eye and just pluck them out as required. The sand that's recommended for flag laying is a coarse or medium sand, which means it can have 'grains' or particles up to 3mm or so - in fact, I can make a good case for using a sand with particles up to around 10mm!
So, don't be too fussy - get rid of any obvious 'lumps', but don't worry yourself about the smaller stuff.
