they said i needed you pads and discs, quoted £500 no thanks got the parts and stuck it on the ramp in our workshop costs me £120 in parts and a bit of time.

Indeed, there is a huge markup on brake replacement work - people see it is a necessity [granted, which they are] but the garages lay it on thick and scare the customer into paying for brakes [that all too often] have enough life left in them to last until the next sceduled service.
