FMB is the hardest trade organisation to get into , you need references from past clients they view your work and take a very dim view off anyone who trades badly , i have 2 friends in it was very hard for them MSH :)

my dads building firm is a member and has been for about 8 years now, but seen on ebay copies of the stickers etc for vans to imitate being a member.

maybe the guy i spoke to when i rang couple years ago was a bit vague on details. they seemed to be interested in getting me signed up 1st then ask questions after if you no what i mean. :;): it seemed more of a sales driven scheme than one driven to serve the public. maybe theyve changed since then. i joined a council scheme in blackpool run by trading standards. pay your fifty quid get your id badge after CRB check proves your not a terrorist and bobs your aunt fanny. theyed remove you i guess if you got bad rep ive no doubt.

FMB has been exposed by the consumer programmes - the scheme has no credibility in my eyes.

I don't see the need to be paying some "Federation" some serious amounts of money to attract work - if your work is good, then attracting possible work shouldn't be too difficult to come by. Word of mouth advertising is the best (and cheapest) form of advertising in my books.

my dads buys plots builds them then sells them so doesn't really need it but hes been in the game for 30+ years with no comlaints so guess it was easy to get or he fell for the sales patter haha. also in nhbc and another one.

if these schemes did work, which i doubt. they would take your money but the work would go to one of their own who gives them a backhander. you might be lucky and get a job no one else wants. Exactly what i thought, "why give your money to someone when your reputation should get you work" ???

i think we have been in it a long time, when we do council stuff they do a masterbond thing where the client pays 2% extra on the job for some kind of insurance
as has been said not sure of the worth of it really
