my general opinion is that blocks paving by its very nature is not suitable for steps,no matter how good you make them, those chamfered edges and bullnoses create slip hazards.

1 kerb high to me is fine, this involves a step of between 150-200mm high and can be cut in,once you get into the realms of 3-4-5 steps,it gets harder to make it look right, better off with 2 225mm walls and straight steps in between.

i am not condoning the steps, but as my old guvnor used to say
" its easy to criticize"
most of us could pull apart 99% of jobs,my biggest fault as a young bricklayer was being a perfectionist.
bricks, mortar, scaffolding, drawings, site agents are all imperfect things.
for all we know the guys that did this drive have done EXACTLY what anglian told them to do.
I'm sure all of us here would like to be the "gordon ramseys,or damien hirsts" of the paving game.

it seems there was a brakedown of communication on this job

people want perfection but bauk at paying the price for it, doing it perfect takes time and patient and people just wont stump up the extra for it.

its that trade off between doing a good job and the time it takes

i heard of 1 crowd of didicoyts round here doing drives for £28 per metre, cash of course ???

i cant imagine for that, you are getting much of anything, even the half sensible local gypsies are now working on £55-60 per metre

there is a fine balance when pricing a job between perfection and what is acceptable, most times its as easy to do it right than wrong but other times those finishing touches you price for may mean someone else will be doing the job

working mum paid top dollar so she should expect a top job, which overall she got, that step just need snagging
