Hey fellas, newbie here from up north. I am not from a landscaping/groundwork background but have always had an interest. Currently in agricultural sales but after a year into the job i know the sales side is not for me.

Read alot about mini crushers and it appears to be a niche market round my way.
Although i am only 24 i am keen to give it a go. I have heard people say its like printing money but if that was the case wouldnt everyone be buying one??

For a starting machine i have been looking at the RR4000

Any advise would be most appreciated

its a big jump, i have a t.c.p micro crusher, getting people to use it is hard ,mine is getting word around but it hard work as all the quarys round hear take concrete for free and will collect lorry full for free if you load but sell it back to you crushed, i use it on all my jobs but converting other builders takes alot off work, some guys had it last week and did almost 100ton with a mini digger loading brick and concrete but they thought it was not worth the work involved i thinck they did well and got product for free just the time it took.you need to ask about and get some feelers out first

most of the people renting out crushers are contractors who have bought them for their own jobs but dont use them everyday and are trying to cover the repayments i very much doubt you will make a living out of it

firstly, what make is the machine you are interested in?

secondly, no you can't make a living out if just hiring a crusher. I wish i could, but i have to carry on landscaping, and as the earler post says, many people buy them for their own work, and hire it out to cover the payments.
People forget the amount of time and money needed to keep these machines maintained. It has taken me four years and a lot of time to get to know my machine, diagnose faults and repair.
The jaws need new teeth every 200 hours, which is a job in itself.

It's one of the reasons why big hire companies like hss or speedy do not have them on their fleet.

i think anyone who says its like printing money is just giving you pub talk.

That said, if their are none in your area, why not give it a go as a sideline?

Done some asking around and i have had some mixed feedback, most people have said they would have 2 try it to decide if it was any good.

Had been looking at the rr4000 crusher but the price tag is a bit steep, the t.c.p crushers look good value for money.

Going to wait now untill the new year then give it a go as a part time venture see how it goes.
I had wondered why the big names didnt have them in there fleet.
Would i need public liability insurance?

you will need liability,and plant insurance to cover theft and will need to tell insurance you will be hiring out unit,i own a TCP very happy with it as dan said 200 hours will need teeth mine is at 200 now teeth are holding out i guss 100hours will see them out, this week the oil cooler started leaking new one is 345 soffs+vat+delivery,i hope thay can fix it so you need alot off work to make a £20,000 outlay to make good return had mine 5 months its had 2 hires +my use wish you luck but its not easy

if you have only had your machine 5 months, then surely the oil cooler is in warranty? or did a hirer damage the machine?
Must say i've not heard of this fault before.My machines done nearly 1500 hours now.
Brought a new one as an addition, but only done 5 hours. not had a hire for it yet!
can't pirtek fix the cooler?

hi dan, bought it second hand done 130 hours my fitter is taking it to bits and looking at it now,priced a new one just to see what i had to play with,he's putting new felt along conveyor that was 65quid for a 6m roll.....he's hopefull it will fix

they are handy on some jobs,not so on others
my mate who has got the big one is selling his crushed now for £8.50 a tonne,
but you wont be retiring on the proceeds
