Yep, you're quite right - a full water tank on a decent sized roller can add 1/4 of a ton easily. Easy to 'forget' things like that.GB_Groundworks wrote:its get hard when you start factoring in things like fuel and buckets and water in the rollers etc soon adds up.

There is a arguement going on at our yard, The tractor driver is told to run on red diesel by the contract manager, and told to run on white by our boss, the union bloke and the other tractor drivers on other contracts.
His reckoning, that he does more road miles than actual work (Massey and gang mowers) that he should be running on white

A tractor hire firm near my uncle has to run their tractors on white diesel when they deliver the machines, but red when they are actually being hired. It's a nonsense
I believe it is a grey area that needs clairfying as who is right and wrong?

The way i understood it, was that any vehicle that is classed as Agriculutural/ Construction vehicle can run on Red diesel, so long as the majority of time is spent on site, and not on road/haulage/transportdig dug dan wrote:A tractor hire firm near my uncle has to run their tractors on white diesel when they deliver the machines, but red when they are actually being hired. its confusing, if you run a 3cx and its primary job is road maintenance then it should be run on white as i understand it.
Can I use one tractor to swap between agricultural and non-agricultural tasks, also swapping from red to white diesel?
No.
If the vehicle is not used "solely" for agricultural, forestry or horticultural work, then it should be licensed in a more appropriate Vehicle Excise License category at the DVLA and run on white diesel all the time.
You cannot swap between red and white diesel according to the job.
That said, provided a vehicle has been drained down and is running on white diesel if stopped by Revenue and Customs while performing non-qualifying work, no action will be taken.
