Putting up/ repairing garden fences due to the arrival of new pooch in the FJs household.

4am - Just got in - it's absolutely slashing down - my good friend's yearly pig-roast tomorrow - fingers et al severly crossed. No hay for us this year - June's too soon - now we're bolloxed.

Hi all

After much deliberating aided by last years appauling weather and this year not being much better I have finally decided a change of career is due, so I am going over to the DARK SIDE !

Yes that's right I have gone back to college and started the Nebosh health and safety course :p

Hopefully if I pass I will be on my way to a regular wage instead of the feast or famine situation of the past couple of years

in the last recession most of the lads i did my time with ended up doing other careers
1 lad went to college and is now a building inspector,poacher turned gamekeeper,
i have had him on a few jobs and he knows that i know what is expected, and there are no problems.
if it wasnt for loft converions and extensions i would be up the creek

My missus gave up high-powered job in compters - went back to universty at age of 50 - to do degree in conservation & urban planning - now loving giving the the finger to the pompous Archies - "does your client really need 5 bathrooms?"
in a conservation area? - tosser....

I think loft conversions and extensions will still be a busy area - as people won't move house, they'll improve their existing.

Same goes for our trade - people will spend money on their existing property/driveway etc rather than move.

yes but when push comes to shove dave,building work is all discretionary spending
food roof and heat are the main concerns for any family

Its like the last recession ( mass panic ) except we also have a change in the weather to contend with. I would say to ride out the storm on both counts. things may get worse before they get better, it'll come right in the long term.

elsewhere on this site i forecast this recession last may.as the saying goes "what goes up must come down"

it will weed out the cowboys and fly by night merchants ,but a lot of good lads will go skint too
