Did one yesterday.

Working at a school i needed to drive across the playing field to get access to the working area.

Being no mug i walked the field first, stomping about in me riggers as i went and it was hard as rock, a little damp on top but nothing major.

20mtrs across the turf the back end of the van dropped and bingo the wheels are spinning, the more we tried the deeper she went, it turns out a water main had been installed last year and obviousley the trench had not knitted in sufficiently and was still soft.

Four hours, two vans and a land rover later we are out, fields a mess and ive earnt 120 squid all morning.

The lads are watching and (wisely) saying nowt, and im thinking don`t bleed in front of the men

What can you do when a calculated risk turns around a bites your ass but hold your hands up and laugh about it over a beer or two later :p

Famous last words Flo'..." put it down to experience". just remember to be as forgiving when one of the gang f**k up. Spend the hard earned on the lads in the pub and get the slagging, ribbing and piss taking out of the way I'm sure there was plenty of that

Monday last week:

Working on my own on a job to try to catch up after all the sh1t weather, went to start the dumper and the pull cord broke. Bloody thing was right next to where I wanted to dig. No socket set with me. Decided instead to get on with some digger excavation that I was putting back because of the wet ground. Started well enough but got bogged down. In the process of pulling myself out with the bucket one of the tracks came off under a foot of mud. Eventually got the track off, cleaned and back on (no mean feat on your own) and hand dug a slope to get the machine out. As it was coming up the slope I noticed 'steam' coming out the console. Hydraulic pipe gone. Called in the pipe man to replace it (fixed in 2 hours - top job).

The next day:

Turned up on site with new pull cord for the dumper. Got it replaced and out the way. Got on the digger and saw the low fuel light. That's funny, I thought, should be loads in there. Tank was low and sure enough the fuel hose was split. Went to get new fuel hose and fitted it. Fired up the dumper and immediately on setting it going the drive belt split.

All the above is true. On the very same day on the other site, the lads broke the electrical hook up on the van's tow bar and 'lost' the front number plate.

Someone up there hates me, I think :D
