Is it acceptable to leave vertical gaps in brickwork every so often in order to allow for drainage. Both patio and path are raised with the surrounding garden some 2 ft below. I have built a low retaining wall (3 bricks high) above the proposed level of the flags, around the path and patio, and will lay flags sloping towards the wall.
