I used to be a technician at a local garage, never lost my skills with the old spanners.....

Did a big job today, cambelt replacement on a V6 MG ZT...

Thought you guys might find the pics interesting.

Replaced ZT160 KV6 cambelts today at home, on the floor with no ramp.

Not too bad a job...

Water Pump and tensioner plus guide roller replaced. New antifreeze plus all filters & plugs replaced.

Camshafts with locking/timing tools in place....

Under-wing shot of crankshaft cam sprocket and timing marks....

Cambelt hydraulic tensioner retracted and locked in off postion with special tool.

Rear belt with timing tool in use.

New main belt in place with new water pump installed.
Image

Rear belt guide pins in place, aids pulley fitment no end.
Image

Rear sprockets with timing tool and spreader/belt tensioner installed ready for fitment.
Image

Pile of old parts, including a worn seat base cover which we replaced.

Road tested and all washed! Not bad for 6hrs work.

Fantastic!

I'm hoping that when I've finished the Wendy House, I'll be able to use the garage for mechanical tinkering (instead of the glorified tool and storage building it currently seems to be)...

kind of reminds me of the time i wrote off me first car, i did say kind of, i was taking a girl i'd only just met to the beach , when i managed to hit a kerb, crash right through a garden wall and wreck the bloody thing, to cut a long story short, i rebuilt the car from the front subframe back up, new wings, bonnet, valance everything, not bad for an 18yr old spotty jamook, took forever mind, and it went down the road like a pissed up crab
