I never used to drink Guinness on this side of the water, as it was never as good as the genuine article, but since they stopped churning out that muck from Park Royal, and brewed everything back in Dublin, I've started to have the odd pint or four, which is disastrous for my alleged diet.
Still not mad keen on tins, though.

was in dublin last may and drinking in the patriot pub opposite kilmainham jail.
anyway i remarked to the landlord that although we were getting irish guiness in luton his tasted far superior
he then told me that he bought his guiness from nigeria as the irish stuff was more expensive!!
anyway he may have been pulling my leg but i found this
makes you wonder

does that rhyme with bulls**t?? by any chance?
funny thing was i had only had 2 pints ,then the landlord bought me one and said tell yer mates
i can handle all the tall tales in the world, for free guiness
still doesn't make sense that it tastes loads better in Dublin ,when its supposed to be the same drink???

I always heard that Guinness does not travel well. That pub is about 500m from the brewery so by that logic the pint should have been excellent.
I could never stand the stuff when I lived across the pond but that was 15 years ago so it might have improved.
The ironic thing is that there is a little small pub, not far from The Patriot (across road from Kilmainham Garda Station) that in my humble opinion serve the best pint of black stuff in Ireland. You get a late pint too 'cos all the guards drink in there after their shift

i think the travel may have summat to do with it,when i went on holiday with my Irish in laws, they all started drinking Carling
when i asked why Carling, when you are all guiness men, and they serve it here ,they replied "look around? who is drinking guiness here? no-one,it has to have a swift turnover to be any good" which sounds about right because the only 2 pubs in Luton that serve it right ,every tom dick and harry in them drinks guiness.
FTR the guiness in Wetherspoons outlets is always abysmal
cheers LLL

Back in the 60s I worked in a factory in Park Royal. We used to convince the Irish labourers there that the tankers fetched Liffey water for the brewery because the local stuff was no good.
They used to do tours of the brewery but no one could remember much about them because of the free samples at the end.
Before that I was a cellerman in the pub on Wembley High Street. We used to shift 300 dozen bottles of the black stuff every week

You're entitled to the work, not the reward.
