Hi to all,
Ive just spent the day in glorious sunshine, cleaning and generally grading nearly 2000 bricks ready to build a bespoke half brick half weatherboard garage.
the problem I know that I am going to have being a fussy bugger is that although I will waterproof the bricks after they have been layed, They being quite soft will generally powder through the seasons, and i am trying to avoid the depressing site of orange dust around the bottom of the walling which makes you feel like it all going to disintergrate in a few seasons time.
I am aware that a market leader SIKA do a range of products that will waterproof and stabalise the bricks but want to put it out to anyone on this forum who as experience of a good product that can deal with this.
Epoxy based products I believe would be sound but I worry that the sunshine would make the bricks look coated as most clear resins seem to opaque when exposed to sun.

Sorry for being long winded , and knowing that this is a block paving section. but hope somebody will have some thoughts they can share.

By the way...the bricks I have reclaimed had lime mortar and many were emulsion painted both faces. I cleaned them by (as I have the slab in ready for the garage) laying chosen face upward all over slab 3hrs, Powerwash 2hrs continuous, stack central slab ready for loading out 3hrs, its taken a day but as I had the bricks unclean and only 10p each the day spent cleaning as been well worth it.
Albeit they are quite a soft brick aghh...

if the bricks are that soft i would reconsider using them, especially if it is a single skin garage
£200 is not a lot to lose but if your whole garage fails in a year or two then it big money
the only reclaimed bricks i use are luton greys, staffordshire blues, arlsey whites and london stocks
leicester red and a host of others are notoriously too soft to do much with except feature stuff
hope this helps
