Hi I used
50mm broken up concrete left when I bust up the old drive (kept all the small gravely bits rest on the skip) and 50mm of tipe1 all on an ashy solid soil very hard to dig
Used a wet full bed about 50-30 mm thick 5to 1 mix all 6 tons of it

so far it mine all right 2 has had a mondeo and a corser on it for 2 weeks while I have been on my holls

do you want constructive criticism andy?
to be honest it dont look right
the reason s for this IN MY OPINION
are
1 you have 3 600 by 600 slabs together
2 you have 4 corners touching on the left hand lower section
3 thats a hell of a crossfall from right to left
4 i think bricks would have looked better but they bring their own problems(as you will see in my pics)

but in the spirit of fairness i will post some of my recent attempts at steps in the next couple of days

btw andy it does look a sound job,i can see where the wet mix has squirted up a little bit
what are you planning on pointing it with?
best regards tony :D

well lutonlagerlout

1 you have 3 600 by 600 slabs together (this because they where all nice even thickness and didn’t think about mixing the sizes.)

2 you have 4 corners touching on the left hand lower section ( I was just tiring to minimise the cutting)

3 that’s a hell of a cross fall from right to left (it looks bad in the picks but I had to slope up to the blue blocks otherwise I would have had a dangerous step where it joins the gravel)

4 i think bricks would have looked better but they bring their own problems(as you will see in my pics) (we decide to do it this way because have done other steps in the same way before)

Any way it is a lot better than 2 2by2’s on top of breeze blocks the we had for 3 years!!lol and i know it wont go anywhere.

and i will pointit up with a wet 3 to 1 mix

john NOVICE if u had seen how much we have done round the back of the house u would reconsider i hope! 160+ squair meaters of crasy paving and the same of concreat flags and many many meaters of walls and role tops and post and panle frences
along with house renavetions we know what we are doing most of the time!

well i took the photos with my sony cybershot, then saved them to my pc in my documents
then i resized them and saved them as JPEGs
then i went to www.imageshack.com
and basically followed instructions for them to host the pictures (which is free) then there are a number of different ways you can link to forums,i chose the one at the bottom of the list==> direct link
then copied and pasted this into the little image button just above where you write your message
hey pesto!
hope this helps tony :)

While we are boasting:

I think bricks or blocks look much better than vertical flags.

btw: The link for image hosting should be this.

Of course I was my own punter - so to speak. I put hex shapes on the patio too:

Trouble was my workers persuaded me to use the dreaded Geofix so one of these fine days it will all have to come out.
