I have some metal garden furniture,for various reasons this was left under a tree through the winter and the birds have decorated the table and chairs

tried soapy water and a stiff brush but it seems like it has etched into the metal,any tips for removal greatly appreciated

Try brick cleaning acid! As its lime deposits, that should do the trick!
