I honestly wish I could lay nothing but natural stone or clay for a living.
Out of interest and just in case I get asked to put some cobbles down in the future, what's the going rate per m2?

Nice one lemoncurd. I tegs are my favourite too mate. I always use flat top edgings as rule when I'm block paving but never against tegs. I just don't think they look good together. Instead I lay the border on 200mm of concrete and give it a right good haunch to stop them moving.
Where the drive meets the footpath I did the same but under the 300mm strip of tarmac there is a 150mm bed of concrete and the black stuffs only 30mm thick. I doubt that it'll spread
I always patch up the grass. I know a lot of firms only do what they have to but I take too much pride I'm my work to leave anything looking pants. I'm sure the same goes for every contractor that uses this forum.
He wants me to price up his patio now.
Happy days

posting images
firstly get a photobucket account
once that is done use the settings shown here
http://ext.pavingexpert.com/cgi-bin....t=11429
then either upload photos from your phone or camera to photobucket or to your PC and then to photobucket
lets say you now have an album called *sampavingjan2015*
as you look at that album there will be a menu on the right
it will say
"share links"
and underneath it will have a menu
email
direct
HTML

when you are on the photo you want to post here click on the image tab and then come back here and right click then paste
then carry on
images need to be in the 800 by 600 format max if possible
cheers LLL

Thanks Tony. I made a Photobucket account last night so I'll give it a go.
Mark I agree, there are some really nice concrete products out there and as far as driveways are concerned, yes natural stone is very expensive in comparison.
The thing is I've been at this a long time now.
When I see work that I helped my dad out with 30 years ago, as you'd guess, the blocks need replacing.
I've dug up Victorian blue footpaths that with a bit of a wash look as good as new.
I say the same thing to all my customers at quotation then let them make there choice.

yes!
anything in staffordshire blue clay looks fabulous a century on
however, like you sy I work for pay
I was talking to dig dug dan the other day and sad as it is I can earn double doing refurb work (ripping out ,steels etc) than I can at paving
I imagine this is just supply and demand, but why break your back for half the $$$

Unfortunately paving is all that I have ever done. Basically I'm a one trick pony.
As long as I carry on getting the work in as well as did last year the business will grow and I'll make a good living.
I really enjoy the work I'm doing at the minute and that means more to me than the extra money I could earn doing other things.
