Bloody Aggregate Industries have closed my local quarry. Was paying about £11 a ton for mot and grit sand including aggregate levy and vat. Buckton Vale Quarry in Stalybridge/Mossley. Will now have to Pay Travis Perkins approx £32 for a "ton" bag. Rant over.

There may be a replacement about to open later this Spring, Meany.

I was speaking with a company that has bought out a quarry quite close to Buckton that has been derelict/mothballed for a few years. They are hoping to start selling stone and aggregate as soon as practical.

buckton vale was always poor quality aggregate, hence the cheap prices. probably difficult to compete with the other crap quarries in that area with lower overheads. the grit sand will be a loss, but the MOT was only MOT in grading, as the physical props weren't suitable for highway applications.

Buckton vales aggregate was not very clever at times.Once or twice i had pieces much bigger than the standard 40mm sized rock. Had a few upto 60-70mm in size. I complained once about the rock sizes and they said some grading mesh was broken in the crushing mill. The best bet was getting 20 to dust and that was m.o.t.

Travis should be able to source you bulk loads at reasonable price we get mot at £12 + vat a ton at mo from them about 15 miles from quarry.

i think Park Royal operate some of the sandstone quarries in that area.

AI have limestone quarries at Carnforth and Buxton, could they not deliver?
