Was doing some post tension work on a large job on monday. Just as the lads started to shoot the cable down the run the reel came to a halt. One of the lads gave the cage a few whacks with a scafflod tube and all of a sudden a loud bang.

Next thing i knew i was stretched out on the platform surrounded by the lads asking if i was ok and if i was hurt. Took a couple of minutes before i could figure out what the hell was going on.

It so happened that when the cable became unstuck it sprung out which was held back by the cage but it caused a major ripple effect that shot down the cable, the force lifted the end of the cable up in the air and when it landed it struck my head and floored me. Thanks to the faithful hardhat my skull (which is pretty thick) would of been splt in two.

Apart from a cracked knuckle, bruised leg and one of the worst headaches i have ever had i am able to write this post. If you work on a small or large job freak accidents happen, gladly i'm one of those people that chose to wear ppe

glad you are ok, your signature almost cameback to haunt you

i watched axe men and they are always going on about the main 1 inch cable potentially snapping and slicing people in half

glad your still with us mate.
wee brother works in precast concrete and everyone must leave the production area when they tension the wires.
one snapped once and ripped through about 6" of concrete pillar at 3/4 tension.

i've seen the tendons rip through a concrete floor. The firm who were s'posed to grout them in after only did parts until they hit an air block. We spent millions redrilling thousands of tendons they had done to make sure they were grouted in. Luckily no fatalities, or collapsed floors. Seen 6 blokes thrown up into a concrete deck when doing a blowout on static pump. 3000 psi and they stood on pipe to stop ot kicking, bad mistake

i goes without saying that ppe saves lives but health and safety can go to far some times, like the no conker's at schools fiasco a while back ,barmy !
