for years now i have been ignoring the door on this fateful night, and tonight was no exception. I always turn off all the lights, and make sure we watch TV in darkness.
This year i made a fatal error, and turned on the kitchen light to make the little one a bottle up, and forgot to turn it off.
10 mins later the doorbell rings, little one starts to cry. We ignore the door. A few seconds later, a load bang, and some sort of rotten fruit thrown at the window.
Went out in the car to try and catch them, but long gone.
Police not interested. Not sure what i would have done if i had caught them, but i dare say the police would have arrested me.
Its time for this menace to be banned.
We spend all year teaching our kids not to accept sweets from strangers, then we send them out to do just that.
Its begging with menaces, and i am sick of it.
BAN IT NOW!
(rant over. next one coming soon when the teenage carol singers turn up holding their hand out)

Im not long back from the shop, only had to nip out to get smokes. Comes back to a house thats just seen about 2 dozen eggs and 4 bags of flour. Not impressed. It wasnt even a trick or treater, neighbour saw the local 16 year old "hardman" do it with his bawbag cronies. Come tomorrow morning he wont be cycling far after i give his bike square wheels. Wee fanny probably stole it anyway. Police are a waste of time anyway. Stock answer seems to be "We cant do much about it im afraid". Prolly a better job you didnt catch them dan

We were all sat out on the terrace drinking and having a laugh, in this quiet little mountain village in Mallorca in our rented villa door was being banged on all night by german English Spanish kids, they got fed up with being offered red wine or tobacco as that's all we had haha, later on they threw some firecrackers into the garden. They probably didn't expect there to be 10 lads coming flying out the gate after them, didn't catch them but we waited and sure enough they came back and got them with the garden hose was funny in the end.

its a fine line between a nice tradition and aggressive begging
when we were kids we hounded people for weeks on end for penny for the guy,we had little james goldsboro painted up and wedged in an old pram (sorry james if you read this)
nowadays i tend to have some fruit and sweeties near the door
my daughter wanted to go out with her cousins last night , I didnt like the idea at all but when you have 3 , 5-8 yr olds all dressed up as witches and their mum with them its a bit more of a game.
when i was a paper boy i wrote out and delivered 170 xmas cards to my herald paper round customers
I got £45 that xmas in tips so for the outlay of £10 on cards it was a good idea :;):
you have to remember this was 1981 and i was getting the princely sum of 1p a paper to deliver £1.70 per week!
anyway back to halloween ,they had been out 5 minutes and it tipped it down, they all came back soaked and we didnt get any other knocks all night

they came back and got them with the garden hose
now thats a good idea. I could easily give them a good soaking, and probably not get into any serious trouble for it!

and if the police officer thinks he can manage it, he'll arrest you so he can improve his arrest/conviction rates, which will no doubt go a long way to improve his PDR for the year!!

i think it is one of the better american imports. It is mostly done in fun and gives kids something to do and look forward to. I love it when the kids knock my door and i always give them loads of sweets. Hopefully my grandkids are getting treated as well by their 'clientele.' anything that spreads a little happiness i am all for.
