Hi,

Thought I'd post this to see what peoples views are.

I have recently finished my DIY paving job and, like most people who don't do this for a living have a surplus of materials.

I listed these on Ebay and have a collection of bricks, slabs, mortar and railway sleepers.

Last night I had a message come through asing me "I live 4 miles away from you. Can I come round and have a look at what you've got?", this struck me as being a bit odd, so I replied saying that "everything I have is listed with a photo and appropriate description, if you have any question on a particular listing just ask".

Interestingly the number of watchers has dropped off since sending that (I sent back to individual only and not posted it on Ebay).

Now, I might be being over cautious, but it smelt very much like, If I can find out where you are then all your stuff is going to get nicked.

So, am I over paranoid? Has anyone else had a similar experience?

I reckon your being a bit a paranoid there. We are constantly selling bits & pieces of stone on eBay and so far we have had none of the problems you describe

I think it depends on what you are selling. If you are selling small high value items such as mobile phones then there are people out there scamming, for sure.

But a few bits of paving, mortar and railway sleepers?

I had a customer a couple of years who was selling the old patio furniture on ebay and they made contact with someone who said they lived nearby and the customer stupidly gave them the postcode to call and view the table and chairs

they woke up the following morning and the 6 chairs and table was missing

coincidence ?

on the whole i would say paranoid
my next door neighbours caravan had all its windows stolen from a 24 hr cctv, watchman on site compound
if someone wants to pinch something bad enough they will find a way
most building materials are too heavy to make it worth while
