As my journey to work takes two and a half hours, jumping from train to train to tube. I have a coffee from the newsagents only a quid. Same on the way home but the coffee is two quid at victoria. Over 5 days that is £15 if i do saturday then its £18. Thats £60 or £72 a month. I have it to keep me awake on the journey ( caffeine ) Was thinking in these hard times that it is a bit of an extravagance, so was thinking what to do with it instead. i am thinking of having a £3 bet on the horses every day, just putting it in an old 7 pint bumper can ( those where the days, i have a 7 pint bumper stomach not quite a 6 pack, its spread out a bit ) or ???

Yes 5 hours in total. leave home 5.20am get home 8.30pm. Tried flask but have to remember to fill it in the morning and at work at night for journey home. Also it's a bit clumsy, small cup and goes cold too quick. Get to read mirror, city am, metro, on way in, london lite and london evening standard on way home. four of those are free papers.

who do you work for.i work in central london everyday.thats some journey .thought my hour and a quarter into london was bad enough.how much traincost you.

i worked in central london years ago,piccadily circus,the strand ,baker street etc
TBH to do it now i would want double what i earn in luton
even driving a tranny it was 3.5 -4 hrs per day then loads of grief parking etc.
I have a m8 who has just come to the same conclusion as you sean regarding coffees ,but TBH its nice to treat yourself.
maybe get a can of special brew on the way home,at least it will stop people sitting next to you

You get used to it over the years, at least i can sit and unwind on the train. Next job could be even further and might have to use the car, as it will be awkward to get to on the train. On the other hand could be made redundant. If its to far i will get the tent out :;): Fare is £102 7 day travel card, hell of a saving as it would be £48 a day. No one would want to sit by me anyway after a day flat out sweating buckets 
dont drink alcohol either.

mine pale to insignificance to that i do 1hr 30 mins each way 80 miles a day, in my navara. up at 6 make a big sweet cup of tea in thermal cup and set off just as moyles is starting on radio 1. drive through the peak district national park haha and get to work for 7.45. reverse applies on way home get home for about 6, gym bit of tv bed haha, accept wednesdays when i have my boy.
i could stay at my mum and dads on the nights i don't have the boy(cut an hour off each way) but prefer to be in my own house with my own stuff haha, plus if i stay at home i end up in the barn still 10pm fixing stuff.

With all the roadworks and road closures that are happening round here and are totally unnecessary may I add, it takes me approximately 18 minutes to get home, rather than the 7 minutes it usually did

....poor man however do you cope with the extra 11 mins? I cant get out of the habit of getting up at 4.20 but dont leave till 5.20 ??? No what you mean about wanting to get home.

Its actually a bit longer, as I'm having to be picked up and dropped off until my shining new motor arrives.
Stooopid roadworks, shut the direct road from work to my house. All in aid of expanding an already big roundabout to accommodate the extra traffic from the university expansion. So for the sake of about an extra 10 cars a minute, they are making a two lane approach into a three lane approach, and shut two roads.
But as soon as you come off the roundabout, you are into a built up area anyway.
In my opinion, It would've been quicker, faster and cheaper to build from the new science park over 100 ft of fields, into a 40mph A road, with only 5 minutes to the M6 and A500

....If i was that close i would either jog to work, or go on a bike. You are missing the oppurtunity for keep fit exercise and help the environment :;):

Meh, you should see the hills. I would walk or Bike it, but then I'd have to lie down all day, and the nature of work I have to walk around 10 miles a day anyway
