I have used pads made by irwin tools for 2-3 years now velcro bands wrap around knee's,gel pads very comfy velcro hold tight, does not dig in, also i have a pair made buy mcguire mcnicolas which is American company, velcro again not gel but very comfy, search the web for them or maybe ebay MSH :)

I have tried many different types of knee pads but personally I find these the most comfortable when wearing them all day

i have about 5 or 6 pairs of helly hansen work pants with built in knee pads, not the thickest but they stay in all day (12 hours) what ever i'm doing, even if in machine all day and you don't notice them till you kneel down.

On the rare occasion that i have worn them ( maybe once) i criss crossed the straps rather than straight across, they reckon it is better. I find them a nuisance and if a stone gets in them
