Seen on the email today:

"Please i know this is a long shot but i have a tenage son desperate for an iphone. Does anyone body have one they dont use. Thank you"

If I see "Received with thanks: Iphone" then I'm going to to try:

"Wanted: Aston Martin DB9, must have MoT and Tax"

...

Don't know about a DB9 but someone was giving away 1993 Astra with mot in Brixton. Not sure if it were there's to give away mind.

I didn't hold out much hope for the person who was asking for 150' of fence panels and posts but according to their 'Received' post they got it.

But people asking for iphones just spoil it

I've been trying to give away a TP playframe, and can't get rid. People seem to want brand new stuff these days, second hand doesn't keep up with the Joneses.

Especially if it came from Travis Perkins!

Freecycle is bloody awful. I tried a few times to get rid of slabs from patios we were taking up. It always seemed a shame to skip them or have them go to second-hand yards.

Trouble is, Freecycle brings out all the chancers and morons. I placed an offer once:

Patio slabs. 200 off clean 600 x 600 slabs. Riven surface, buff colour, a little weathered. Please note that I will place preference with anyone who can take them all. Please also note that they are heavy and cannot be transported by family car. Do not apply unless you have the use of a large van or truck.

Within two hours I had the following questions:

How many do you have?
I'm interested in the slabs. What size are they?
Could you tell me what colour they are?
I can take all of them provided they have a smooth surface?
How many could I get in a Volvo estate?

etc. etc. etc.

By the following day I had more than 50 like that.

In the end I agreed with a lady who said she would take them all and had a van to borrow.

She turned up in an effing Toyota Yaris, which could take five without knackering the suspension. She did this trip four times and gave up!

Never again....with slabs anyway.

On the other hand, I did get rid of some furniture, an old fridge and an old flymo using freecycle without any problems.

A like freecycle but sometimes you're better off with ebay, less timewasters.
Perhaps start the bidding for the climbing frame at 1p.

Same with the paving slabs

I do give away things on freecycle but don't do the 'first come first served' but state preference given to people who leave a contact number, have looked at a map to see where we are and say when they are available.

Also have been given some great stuff by asking in a polite manner.
