I work in Angola managing a group of lads and I have been wanting to send one or more off to the local market for a "long wait" but this does not translate well into Portuguese!
However, one of my lads was complaining about a little cut he had on his hand so I called him a "grande menina" - a big girl - and this seems to translate rather well as he is in fact, in Portuguese, "a big, little, girl". He did not appreciate being called this.
Other phrases translate OK such as "a good site is a tidy site" but please list these common phrases in English and if you speak Portuguese list those that translate well in Portuguese.
Thanks.
