Was on-site yesterday, saw nameplate "The Vicar" on a 5 ton swinger - I asked what the significance was....

"Oh that's Rog our machine driver, we call him the Vicar as he is guaranteed to never miss a service!!"

Oh how I lol'd I nearly wet myself :D :)

I saw a Hiab wagon collecting crates of flagstones in a local yard. A sign in the cab window read "Midwife on Call" ... he's always making deliveries, was his excuse!

I had a brickie working for me at one time. I was desperate to have the valve house for a wet well pump built, and he was the only brickie available. I offered a price for the job, but, because it was English Bond in Class A engineers, and involved a lot of effing about below ground level, he wanted daywork.

I soon found out why. On a good day, he'd manage 150 bricks and that's why he became universally known as "The Golden Trowel"

gissa job i can do dat!150 bricks a day!!

the best nickname i have seen is an auld irish fella they call "the drake" after the drakes breakfast

when i worked with a load of irish lads they would be talking in the van about "the drakes breakfast"
so being a nosey cu.... i mean sort, i asked what this was??

fella says "you ever watch the drake first thing in the morning, at the pond,he goes down has a drink of water and then goes and s...s a duck"
so in human terms ,the drakes breakfast is the ride and a cup of tea :)
anyway this auld fella "the drake " when they asked him had he had it he would reply "yes, but i skipped the tay!"
so "the drake"
hehe
