Computer goes down on Christmas eve, and cant get my emails or contact the family around the globe. Ntl cant sort it as there is a ' signal strength problem' I check all the cables myself and find there is no conductivity problems, so i then try the wireless router... no problems there either. Got a mate round to sort it out , and found that the modem was faulty... got new modem and then cant access my emails cos ntl have changed my user name ... trying to get it sorted as i'll have to change all my headed paper etc otherwise! Will catch up with the threads over the next week or so...glad to see everyone is busy, and that I'm not the only one experiencing the price squeeze

Hi Matt
ISP supplied E-mail addresses can be a nightmare when something goes wrong, I know it costs money but I found it well worth it to purchase a domain name (wether it be your name, company or what ever) and pay for a POP3 mail box account attached to that domain.
What this allows you to do is forward, redirect, filter and block mail etc... So if your internet goes down you can use a friends or family members PC to alter where your mail can be retrieved, also many now offer a hot mail type service where you can view the mail direct on their mail server.
If you've got a laptop or a wireless dongle you can even roam to find an unsecure wireless network then pickup your mail and surf using someone elses broadband !
