Was working in town the other day when 3 van loads of travelling folk (pikeys as you lovingly call them) rocked up. Boss jumps out of his van clip board in hand wearing a hi vis jacket and proceeds to knock on all the doors. Turns out they were offering to powerwash and seal everyones roofs. Was blown away by their Nike roof ladders. No job is worth dying for. Don't know who's more stupid them or the punters who actually thought they would get the job done properly. They were charging 400 quid and using thompsons brick seal on wet tiles amazing. I'm in the wrong job with profit like that. Click on my webpage for photo.My WebpageMy Webpage

i actually find it a bit sad seeing guys on roof without scaffold,i have pointed chimneys in the past off ladders and when you think about it you are risking your life because someone is too mean to pay for safety equipment
there is a valid reason for keeping roofs free of lichen etc as they tend to rot the battens ,but not like this

They did at least 15 houses in the street 2 guys spent less than an hour on each. My client thought about it but I put them right. Worst of all they'd probably sue you if they fell of your roof.

even over here with asphalt shingles, roofing is the most dangerous building job out there -- down here in the sunshine, it's sadly common for a bloke to be blinded by the glare coming off the roof -- and the poor b*st*rd walks right off the edge. roofs here aren't steep enough to scaffold, but a 15' drop is still hard on yer bones!

400 greenbacks for an hours work is obviously more important than health & safety to those guys. Off their fxxxin heads if you ask me. Its bad enough standing on a roof without a pressure washer lance in your hand, mental!!!!!!!!

easy money. Having worked off roofs with ladders for years, I find this kind of risk low key, but he wouldnt be doin it off slate and if he can get 400,00 notes for i hour, well let me know where this is at, and i'll come down and treble my prices for flat roofing! Punters must be loaded!:D

Think you would lose more than 400 an hour if you fell off.
flat roofs or steep roofs, they are all still the same height off the ground.

we don't get the moss (usually -- only those with loads of big trees) -- our roofs tend to grow mildew and fungus...which destroys the shingles or clay tiles seemingly overnight.

So I hear my brother lives in Seattle and has just had to fork out $45,000 to replace all his cedar roof shingles after an attack from something or other. Not a happy chappie roof was only 10years old and when he bought the house he was told it had a 20yr guarantee. Didn't cover what went wrong though.
