Hi All,
I have just had my drive pattern imprinted but I am concerned about the colouring, or should I say the method of colouring
The concrete was poured and whilst still wet they sprinkled a power colour on, is this right way to do it? reason I ask is after a week they returned and jet washed it, but in some places bits are now missing, it looks almost like a layer of paint has peeled away and you can see the grey underneath. they are returning next week to seal and as one of then said commented to "fix a few places" .

its the way that PIC is installed in this country
myself and no one on here likes it because if it goes wrong its had it
the colour should not have come off with jetwashing
picture would be handy ,but i cant see how they can easily add a longlasting colour to cured concrete

Any comments on "it's normal" "they must have been bad" "you are stuffed" "get them to replace it all" would be most welcome.

There’s been a few drives around our way that have been with done PIC recently.
The colour was added in the way you describe and although none of the drives are particularly old none of them have seem to have lost any noticeable colour.
I'm no expert but in your picture it looks like the powder hasn't soaked into the concrete but has a formed a crust and a bit has fallen off?

Yes I would agree Bob but I liken it to when you put neat emulsion onto new plaster, the water gets sucked out too quickly and leaves the pigment on surface, if you stick something to wall you can pull what looks like thin card off, in my case when they jet washed it it blew some parts off.
I am not worried about loss of colour overall but I am worried about these patches, there are about five without inspecting fully. I am just concerned as to how they are going to fix it and if they came up / off will more over time!

I'm no PIC expert but that doesnt look good from my study
as bob says it doesnt look like the colour has properly adhered to the wet concrete

that is a big fail i would say the crew that did it not taught right am not a fan of pic but we do the real deal good luck :;): cookie

Thanks everyone, I have also found more of these, total now about 7 and there also appears to be brush marks and quite large areas, they are coming on Wednesday to have a chat but what they are saying so far implies they are going to somehow patch it, not cut out and replace. is there any other acceptable method of repair or should I simply insist on replacement.

the photo you posted above looks like the decorative colour has cracked all around the area where the surface is missing anyway and its not going to get any better as time goes by
I would insist on a replacement because you are going to end up with patches all over your brand new driveway as you will never get the new colour and pattern to match the old exactly
who did it ?

That looks very bad.
Any attempt to remedy that by filling in the patch is unlikely to be to your satisfaction.
Rather than getting them to rip up and redo your drive, you could consider an overlay.

Thanks everyone for all your suggestions, as we all knew it has got worse, a lot worse! I have had "Cheshire Driveways" back and Gary was trying to go down the line of repair by sanding down and re-coating with sealer but I said I am not happy with that. As it stands at the moment he is coming back in April to re-look at things and this is when I think the fun will start!
Some of the replies are for repair methods, anyone any experience in these or what type of guarantee is there with these methods?
