Don't take the micky out of me but i have finally decided on my drive. I am having Hebden 40 plastic rienforcement and filling with 20mm gravel not soil. Anyway iam really panicing about the bottom of the drive. i have now dug the old kerb out and gone down to 200mm the trouble is i just have a massive muddy puddle where the drive meets the path. There is no where for the water to go as the path is higher than the drive. Do i just put shuttering up and lots of concrete with a kerb on top ? or should i dig a soak away under the drive there is no other drain cause even the garden is higher that the drive. The soil is mainly clay but it does soak in eventually.

So where do i start? i could raise the drive to help with drainage but because iam using gravel the water will just puddle again under the gravel which could effect the base. The weather is not helping but what should i do.

The plastic rienforcement is supposed to be layed on 40mm grit sand. The drive 58m2 is now ready for the mot type 1 to be delivered and compacted but i need to sort out the kerb / edging at the bottom of the drive first. Please see photo before i dug it out, now its a small lake !!!!!!!

Could you not lay a rigid clayware perforated pipe or summat like Hydraway or Aquadyne beneath that threshold area and drin of to a storm cell under the garden?

20mm gravel is awfully big for a driveway!

Raise the edging up and stick a tar strip to the front

20mm gravel is a bad idea as Tony said I always use a 10mm Flint or granite based gravel.

Thanks very much for the replies 10mm would probably look better. I think if i raise it up and have a substantial edge deep enough and wide enough not to move maybe with some concrete kerb on top it should be ok.

How do i raise the edge up? Do you mean like dig a channel maybe 30mm wide 2ft deep full length of entrance then fill with concrete and put kerb / edging on top of the concrete. Does that sound about right ? Also which kerb would be best and should i put a pipe under concrete going to the path so water could drain to the road under the concrete if you know what i mean.
