am going to install 350 sq ft of 1.5 inch sawn cut bluestone over roof covered patio in freeze thaw area. Bluestone is of two sizes 18 in x 24 in and 12 in x 18 in. Concrete patio is without cracks and is fairly level with little straight edge deflection. Was considering using 3/4 inch noch trowel to spread heavy bed thinset and to backbutter the stone and set. Then I would point up the joints with a dry mortar.

I had consideredputting down either schluter Ditra or a Blanke membrane prior to stone. Is this necessary?

What is cleanest way to strike off the joints?

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Sorry, but the majority of Brew cabin Irregulars are either Brits or Irish and we have no experience of these products or the weather conditions you mention in our respective countries. That's why it says "Britain and Ireland" at the top of every page.
