As you may have gathered i am in building / construction game. as a result my hands are in a bad way through constant power tools, heavy lifting and the occasional shlap to some idiot  . Sometime soon ( waiting for a date) i am having a bone taken out of my hand. i will be off for 10 weeks. has anyone any ideas what i can do to keep busy, also make a few quid. it does my head in just having a week off. no saucy ideas if you don't mind, although thinking about it, it is only my hand that's knackered :;):

Dave's ebay one is about the closest I can think of for someone with a crock hand (however, saying that, our last window cleaner only had one arm, although I think he had a lackey that he would send up the ladder).
Maybe find a source of cheap goods where you can sell 'em on ebay for a little more than you paid and also add a little bit more than cost for P&P
e.g. to test the water, nip along to your local pound shop, and see what they've got. I noticed the other day that they had laptop locks and cables. Buy 10 of these, stick em on ebay for £1.50 with £X.XX p&p where X is the cost of the P&P +10% (or something). See if they sell. If they don't then you're down £10 (or whatever), if they do then buy some more or something similar. You'd be able to guage the strength of the market by how quickly they go. The thing with ebay is that a lot of people think that if they see it cheap on ebay then that's as cheapest they'll be able to get it anywhere...
I suppose there's always light weight garden tidying or somesuch

is it your lead hand that's out sean??
i would say ebay or try painting or writing a journal
obviously theres work like call centres and telesales but somehow i dont think you would fit in
a mate of mine was getting scooby doo nodding toys for cars for £1 each from the pound shop,he sold them for £2 buy it now and a £1 p+p,he did about 15 like that
have you got a mobile that ready for an upgrade?
i still have my trusty 6310,so when my contract expired 2 weeks ago i upgraded to a nokia N95,which i put on ebay and sold for £275 buy it now
so although i now have an 18 month contract at £40 a month i have nearly a 3 er in my back pocket
cheers m8

Thanks Ted. I read quite a lot and have studied a bit. might try do a puter course as i only know the basics. Done a lot of buying and selling on the market, very competitive game. Not looking forward to being off its easy to get into a lazy lifestyle. Had a few ideas for years but hadn't the bottle to go ahead. But needs must a? :;):

Learn some programming skills. Get some smart clothes and call yourself a consultant. It's much easier than everyone thinks, and there's plenty of money to be made in that game. Otherwise, just learn how a home PC fits together and how windows works and you set up fixing them (ie replacing everything at the customer's expense) and flogging virus scanners for zero capital outlay.

Sean, you've always got good, sound advice here -- what about hiring out as a consultant within the industry? You could at least keep the wolves at bay doing up contracts and such, I'd guess.
What say, lads, anybody need an estimator?

how bowt creating computer game with construction theme...ted's common faults page could be a good start... client starts building project, and gets points for doing it right, or suffers penalties, with worst case scenario having to pull it all down:rock:

Have you ever thought of getting into this?
http://www.sew.org.uk/
The Society for Expert Witnesses...
It is very lucrative! You can charge £70-£90 an hour! It gets you out but isn't very physically demanding and you get to eek the cowboy builders out (or defend them!).
It is something I want to get into later in life but I need to become more of an expert in the meantime.
You probably want to be a member of the CIOB (Chartered Institute of Building) to do this work if commenting on general housebuilding.
