Type1 price doesn't suprise me, they don't want you at the quarry. It's as simple as that.

we dont have anywhere round these parts we can pick up aggregate,only quarries round here are sand ones and as dave says they dont want you there,the prices all look good the manhole cover especially,i think i pay about £40 for those

Same here LLL,
for my driveway:-
MOT1 - 24 p/ton +VAt delivered bagged
Grit Sand - 29 p/ton +vat delivered bagged
Recessed M/H - 46+vat
Hepflow Linear drainage - 15+vat p/m
Blocks - 9+vat m2
More because its a small job but couldnt get much cheaper for unbagged or bulk ;(

Recessed manhole covers 600 x 450 £20.00 300 x 300 £15.00 450 sq to round £15.00
I used to use the Clark Drain manholes with the built in lifting keys - had all sorts of problems - the centres springing and blocks coming loose, impossible to lift covers after a year without breaking keys, the frames are plastic and very warped. So i sourced some very good ones at lot better prices - the ones with holes in the corners for standard lifting keys. Much easier to install and for ease of access when lifting cover
Linear Aco type Channels 1m length £6.20 each
The above prices are based on bulk buying pallets. 104 channels at a time and 40+ manhole covers
Same with cement and Kiln Dried sand and drainage - buy in pallets and save a fortune
Type 1 loads of different quarries up here in cumbria with different standards of stone Collect Type 1 from £7.25 to £12.50 per ton also can get delivered type 1 for £8.50 per ton from a certain quarry a lot depends on what quantities you are getting and how far from quarry you want delivered
I can get very good quality 60mm 200 x 100 paviors for £6.70 per m2 delivered Also Brett 50mm(was TopPave) available for £7.60 per m2. Who in their right mind buys Marshalls Driveline 50 for £10 and more ?
The majority of my paving i get from Tobermore. Quality products, quality prices and quality service. I am not disclosing my prices though !!

8.50/ton delivered ! wow !
For my project I think I'll need between 6 and 10 tons (depending on how much hard standing I build in addition). The cheapest I could find was 18.25/ton (+VAT from Jewson), but most of the BM's I've spoken to are quoting around the 30.00+ mark

all depends on location,like i say in the southeast there aint a lot of rock in the ground so we are paying haulage on top. i used to pick up metres of building sand for a fiver a metre in the 80's but the HSE stopped people like me going into quarries,too hazardous.
also in the south east you cant get a builders yard for love nor money they have all got 1 bed flats built on them round this way ,or they want £400 -600 a week for a small unit on an industrial estate ,i have to work out of 4 lock up garages so i cant really buy anything in bulk,i expect in more rural areas this isnt so much a problem,used to rent a barn off a farmer for £50 a week but the farm has gone now and there are 5 "million pound" houses on the old farmstead

Up here we are a bit spoilt for choice to tell the truth, we are inbetween a few quarries, and also a couple recycling places. Can get a good few ton of sand all for a dozen cans of beer, but thats because im good friends with a man at my local tip, it used to be a sand pit.
I work out of an old farm, the sheds and space is very handy. But sometimes you just get in the habit of putting the extra couple of slabs left over in a pile and before you know it you got a pallet of slabs to use up.

You fancy sending me some aco's and a recessed m/h cover down. be cheaper to pay delivery than buy local. lol

Recyled MOT typ 1 £ 7.00/ton delivered @16 ton loads from my local council. BUT dont use it if the forecast is very wet, it gets very claggy.

Here in good old Dorset (Bournemouth to be precise) the cheapest Type 1 price I could get for 50Ton delivered was £15.5+vat, most expensive was £28+vat per ton.
Recessed man hole is £25+vat.
I haven’t got to checking for the blocks yet.
Got a great deal on the bricks for the wall, £169+vat per 1000 for wire cut rustic looking, bricklayer was impressed although he still rejected some, broke my somewhat tight heart.

£169 a thou is cheap mikey ,are they frost resistant?
the only rustics i know of are lbc rustics ,which fall to bits at the fist sign of a frost?
btw i will be in dorset the weekend,i will be at highcliffe looking for fossils (thats what i tell mrs lagerlout anyway)

The bricklayer said they would give a rustic look, but the precise name, manufacturer and style is “Wienerberger Terca harvest mix wire cuts�, brought from Elliotts Builders Merchants, you did get me panicking for a moment, as they were purchased purely on price and Mrs Mikey C’s approval, a web search was required to determine whether I had made a colossal mistake, a fact am not entirely convinced I have solved with the following information taken from the manufactures website.
Technical Details
Durability to EN 771-1 -- F2
Maximum Water Absorption -- ≤10 %
Active soluble salts to EN 771-1 -- S2
You will find plenty of fossils in Highcliffe which is quite close to east part of Bournemouth where I live, unfortunately most of them will be driveing cars or doing there shopping!
If you haven’t left already and might want to come have look at an amateurs half finished attempt at landscaping/block paving/fencing/drainage and labouring for the bricklayer, send me a PM and I will give you my address, I already owe you a beer for the help and guidance given so far.
