Whilst on my way back from a timberyard today (pricing up the bits for my new shed) I drove past the B&Q w&*rehouse and noticed they had a few concrete blocks on pallets outside the store. This reminded me that I needed a couple of courses for the lower part of my shed walls, so I called in to see how much they were.
To my surprise, they were 'secondhand' blocks (they're doing some work on site) and they hadn't yet decided what to do with them. I offered them 15.00 for a couple of pallets and they snapped my hand off.
I've just got the first load home (my trailer aint that big and these blocks weigh 3stone each)
I reckon that it'll work out to around 10p per block. I'm not certain what their strength is but they'll certainly do to build my wooden frame off of...

Well - £15, 2 trailer trips, 23 barrow trips and one bruised fingernail later I've got 112 full blocks and numerous half/ partial ones. It works out about 13.5p per whole block, it's a bit better than the 60-70p I was budgeting for.
A couple of questions:
Are there any problems with stacking them this high?
There's no lumps of mortar on the blocks so would just a quick run over with a wire brush be OK before I lay them?

Have you ever driven past a brick yard and seen how many packs of bricks they stack on each other?
You seem to have tied them into each other so the pile looks good to me.
Why wire brush them? Just lay them as they are.

They just seem a bit dusty, was wondering about decent adhesion - I've never really worked with 'hard' stuff before (can you tell? :;): ) - IT, wood and sparks are my usual domain...

are you gonna lay em, or, make love to 'em? because as you've never worked with"hard stuff" before, you'll need some custard compo. :laugh:

Well, I am quite fond of them (I like cheap things) so wanted to treat them with respect before I bedded them... :;):

Bloody hell, picked 15 of these up today from B&Q (78p each). No wonder my motor looked low at the back. LOL

Don't know if mine are the same ones that B&Q normally sell so your car's suspension may not be as unhappy as it could be.
If I have to go get any new ones, I'm going to pay the extra and go for the aircrete
