The pic #1 shows the undamaged (phew!!!) live BT cable, found about 200mm below.
Pics 2 & 3 show a dead/cut cable we unearthed - it is definitely an old service that has just been cut and left. Sure made our hearts jump a beat when that was hooked up out of the ground! :0

you dont get that problem with hand digging dave
the only problem is getting the gear out in the first place
