Well, after what seems like two lifetimes, the bok wot I writted is due to be published towards the end of January 2006.

I'm a bit annoyed that the publisher has failed to get it onto the shelves in time for the Xmas market, as was originally agreed, and some of the editing has, I feel, detracted from a book that in its original version was very definitely written in my own vernacular language, but after a bit of to-ing and fro-ing, give and take, push and shove, not to mention a generous selection of building site language, it's 99% there and I can't really complain.

Entitled "Driveways, Paths and Patios - a complete guide to design, management and construction", it's almost 200 full-colour pages, hardback, and full of my own diagrams and illustrations, along with photos taken on a number of jobs undertaken by some of the the Brew Cabin Irregulars, and dead good photies from some of the manufacturers that support the website. It is NOT a book-version of the website, but is all new material, examining the design process in as much detail as the actual construction process, something I've never actually done with the website.

Here's a sneak preview of the cover for those of you that have been following this saga over the last couple of years....

It's priced at 16.99 quid, but I'm hoping to be able to offer a discount to users of the Brew Cabin and the website, and if you want me to use a felt-tip to scrawl me name inside the cover, that can be arranged. More news on all this before Chrissymus.

No smoking jacket, Joe - I gave up after my heart attack, exactly 5 years ago today. I'm now one of the statistics, one of the 41% who survive for 5 years after a MI (myocardial infarction). Yippeee! :D

Probably drop dead tomorrow, now! :(

Tony
excellent site, whats the latest re your book? I'm sure I'd find it useful for this summers projects!
Amazons quoting "usually dispatched within 4 to 6 weeks", is it available any sooner?
Sorry if this is covered elsewhere on this site but I couldn't find it.
Thanks

About time someone has written a book about this subject, all the better when that person knows what they are talking about. :D

Well, until someone who does know what they're talking about comes along and writes such a book, mine will have to do! :p

I've still heard NOWT from the so-called publisher and it's beginning to annoy me. I was interviewed on t'wireless last week, which could have been an excellent 'plugging' opportunity, and given the number of folk crowding around the bookshops at the Homebuilding & Renovation Shgow yesterday, that was another excellent marketing opportunity missed.

It was supposed to have been out last autumn, in time for the Christmas market. Will it be out for Xmas 2006?? I shall make further enquiries this week and let everyone know.

Got a reply from the publisher.....

"I am very sorry indeed about the delay in publishing your book. I have spoken with our Production Manager who informs me that the book will be on its way from our printers in the Far East by the end of March and that it will arrive in our book distributor's warehouse here in the UK on the 21st April 2006.

Once again I do apologise for the delay."

...just in time to miss the spring rush!

Is there any demand for me to provide a pre-publication reservation service? I could set-up a page to take orders for delivery as soon as the book makes it here from China.

I'm off to Cuba next week for a bit of a break and need something rivetting to read - so I'm taking the latest Harry Potter book!

But when I'm back I will look forward to reading your screed ("An harangue; a long tirade on any subject") and hope that it brings its readers many hours of pleasure and its author many credit card purchases at full list price to repay some of the excellent work he's done over the years.

Good luck with it Tony.

Sim :)
