Hi

What horrible weather here in Cumbria.
Woke up on Saturday morning to devastation. Trees, fences, roofs - all demolished or fallen. Roads flooded, houses evacuated.
Misery for a lot of people, but as the saying goes - One mans misfortune is another mans gain.

I have been to look at 10 jobs this week-end, all of them fencing. The majority need brand new fencing erected. Probably about 2 weeks work. Still expect more calls when the weather quells.

Over the past 2 days I have seen every roofer within 50 miles driving about with their ladders, climbing on roofs repairing 2-3 slates. I bet they are making a fortune.

I am supposed to be laying 100m2 of Rumbled Pavoirs tomorrow. I dont hold out much hope. Started the job last Tuesday. Should have been a 4 day job. It has taken 4 days just to get it graded, kerbed and compacted as well as wall foundations and drains. Rained every day last week. If Im lucky I might get it finished this week !!!

I keep on saying to the wife about upping sticks and moving to Spain. If only them 6 numbers would come up !

Heres hoping for some milder weather

Nigel

Having sat through three of the four hurricanes this year, and consider us fortunate to have emerged with only minor damage, my deepest sympathies go out to those affected.

I look out my window at blue skies and balmy temperatures, and it's almost hard to believe that it was only a few months ago that we sat in the living room, afraid the roof was going to come up at any moment.

My sincere best wishes to all affected.

I thought you were coming over to London Village this week, Amy? Have you seen that cloud over the Atlantic?? Rather you than me!!

And Nigel - them roofers you mention: what's the betting that they were all factory watchmen last week, and will be landscapers in a couple of months time?? :;):

You remember correctly! I'll be showing up all over the Mother Country next week, and hope to be bringing some of our lovely (and calm!) weather with me...s'pose they can tie it to the tail of one of Branson's birds? Fortunately, I'm leaving late in the week, and hope to only be following it....hopefully in time for lots of need for roof and asphalt repairs...!
