Last night I was laying some turf around my recently completed driveway when a chap walking his dog stopped and said, "have you done all this yourself". Yes, I replied, with help from information downloaded off the Internet.

"Oh, do you mean Tony McCormack's site" he said. I nearly spilt my Boddy's all down my vest!

We chatted for a while and it turns out he is having his driveway block paved starting this Wednesday (120 sq mts) and paying £7,800 which confirms that I saved about 4k by doing it myself as my drive is 135 sq mts and cost £4,000.

Thanks Tony, I owe you one.

You're not allowed to spill Boddie's!!! 'Tis sacrilege!

Sometimes, when I'm sat here in the tiny back bedroom nerve centre of Pavingexpert, it's easy to forget just how many people use this site, but then I go out to exhibitions or speak to students and it seems everyone knows the site and wants to chat. What tickles me is the assumption held by some of the folk I meet, that I run some huge, multi-disciplinary empire of civil engineering contractors, builders, groundworkers and web designers, when in fact it's just me, a tiny spare room and a pc that's verging on 'antique' status.

And I've got a really crap-looking drive! ;)

Y'know, Tony -- if your drive is looking a bit crap -- if you knew anyone who did bitmac sealers, you'd be in the catbird seat.

The drive looks crap because it's block paving that hasn't been cleaned for the past 2 years.

It's a shared driveway and following a dispure over parking rights, the neighbour and meself don't exactly see eye to eye. Up until a couple of years ago, I always had the driveway cleaned each spring, so that it looked smart and well-maintained, but since him-next-door fell foul of me by parking-up two broken down wrecks on the shared bit and thereby blocking my access to the rear of the house for several months, I've no intention of forking out to have his half of the drive cleaned, but I'm not petty enough to have just my half cleaned.

However, I think I've reached the end of my patience and I'm going to get my half cleaned and sealed, so that it looks presentable, and bollocks to the miserable sod next door! :)
