I have just had a gravel driveway laid. Construction was OK - around 50mm of gravel (20mm dia angular type) laid onto 150mm of Type 1. Both were whacked down. Repeated trafficking has made the gravel layer loose and difficult to walk on. I don't think it's too deep, because I don't get deep tyre ruts appearing. Can I add anything to help bind the gravel, like sand or grit, just to make the surface more stable?

you could lay plastic sabalising grids but would require scraping up all the gravel, thats the trade off with a gravel drive, i know an old boy who says you should only have a gravel drive if you have a man to rake it everyday.

I have gravel because as a builder i am always coming home with bits and bobs on the pick up,its easy to rake over the badness

Hi all first post so be gentle,

Just doing an extension to my drive and adding a extra 30m2 of blocks and thinking of 10m2 of gravel if I am honest to keep the cost down a bit and also add a different feature. I dont plan to drive /walk on the gravel too often but do want to be able too if needed without either sinking in of scuffing everywhere.

Reading the post above someone mentioned a plastic retainer is this any good, I have looked around and see a lot of mixed results with gravel some seem like tank traps and others look quite firm and able to withstand light traffic.

I was planning to keep the gravel just below the fiished height of the blocks but debating wether to spread directly on base layer or screed ans what depth to go for any advice aprreciated.

Thanks

for the sake of 10m2 I would just carry on with the block. if it is you going to do it the cost is only the blocks at £100, if you are getting a contractor the cost won't be to much more.
