My Dad had a six pack his whole life until he quit smoking.
He put a stone on within a 6 months after stopping but no more since and he stopped 10 years ago now.
Stopping smoking didn't effect my mum's weight at all though.
I've tried stopping twice and failed twice in the last 3 years.
Hats off to those of you that can quit for good.

I've been a smoker and an ex-smoker a good few times. Currently a smoker. I've stopped several times for a few months and don't find it difficult providing your in the right frame of mind. Stopping is easy, staying stopped is the hard bit. People who've never smoked but preach about giving up annoy me. I think only people who've smoked can understand it.

When I have stopped I substitute fags for chocolate bars.

Why would anyone have to give up tea? I almost take the stuff in on an intravenous drip! With two sugars everytime!!

I cut down from 10-15 a day a couple of years ago to 10-15 a week. Mainly have 1 in the morning or 1 when I have a pint.

I'm not too bothered doing it this way. I don't think a cigarette in isolation daily is much harm to you.

GERD, i gave it up for a week because intense indegestion; drank water, i was clucking badly ( honest ), also got bad headaches. Thought i'd try just one cup one night and hooked all over again. Now drink it in moderation, half a gallon instead of a gallon :;): :)

I drink 10 to 15 a day, but its all I drink. Tea is 95 percent water anyway!
people constantly moan about me having sugar, but I dont moan about them having pints of beer!
if I go to the job, and there is no customer on site, I look for somewhere to plug a kettle in, or I take a generator!!
cant go without tea!

No doubt a disgusting and stupid habit. I do enjoy a cigarette though ;-) But I never claimed to not be stupid...

My gran, god rest her soul, smoked 40 a day for near 60 years. Died in the end of smoking related causes, her lungs were black and ruined. To her death she maintained it wasn't the cigs but the 6 months she worked in some factory in the 60s that was the cause!

I try to avoid lying in life where possible, but lying to oneself is just a total waste of life IMO.

Tony sent me a book by Alan Carr on how to stop smoking, (that reminds me I need to send it back to you)

I never read it as at the time I had no intention of stopping smoking at that particular time when I was sent the book even though Tony advised me it was the best option

It was my choice to stop smoking and I certainly will not lecture anyone to stop smoking but also don't be offended when I step away from you when you have just smoked a cigarette as the smell is disgusting if you don't smoke, sadly that was me 2 and a half years ago

a few weeks ago I was down wind from someone smoking so I moved away and the person followed me, he had to be told straight please step away as I have moved to get away from the smell as I find it repulsive to be blown in my face
