We have a road to the rear of our homes to access garages and parking. We're looking at reinstating it with MOT type 1 compacted. A cheap job as a few of the thirty home wont put in.

We have spoken with the council about a turning circle,an area slightly wider to allow vehicles turning. This will encroach on council property very slightly. He has come back with it being a 'change of use' and ,basically, being a right PITA.
So ,I was wondering ,is there a standard road width for vehicular access? Years ago, the homes all gave up a bit of their garden to make a road for access. Its over grown and the boundary are blurred, so a boundary cannot be established. I don't want to fall foul of Mr Zealot. but I do want to have as much room as possible to move vehicles about. I can go to the Land Registry, but again, its an interpretation of the boundary, something which could be a metre or so off.

So will there be a standard setting out rule?

the line on the boundary when scaled can be up to 200mm either way

however I do know from a boundary dispute that a neighbour had with the council that they havent got the money to fight spurious legal cases

the access roads you talk about are normally very tight around 2m wide

2M! TWOOOO METRES? How will number 17 get their Hummer up that? :D
I assumed it would be a bit of a ball ache. The council land is generally unkempt and only mown every so often. Its hidden from view from the road and from walkers by a brook that runs along its edge .So I'd assume a blind eye would have been turned as we've set up a residents association too to help the council keep the area tidy.
I'll have to get onto the LR to see if there's a definitive boundary line or rules for such. Thanks for the info :cool:

Could try the garden law forum, lot of info there regarding boundaries and boundary disputes.

Or put on a high vis vest, carry a clip board and encroach on the land anyway. If anyone asks you're meant to be there :laugh:

Ha ha!
Well its only the residents who are privy to the road. Its very private

The last thing the council do is inspect the area. Theres was a 'Builder from Hell' half a mile up the road who did and extension and garden landscape which took 7 months (still there) They chucked all there debris out on the park area. No one came from the council to tell them to shift it till some considerate citizen (me) rang up parks and told them to get their finger out. :D
I know I'll get away with it, but Mr Zealot will swing by at some stage and have a paddy.

After wasting three quid on the LR. I found this site

Found my boundary map, and you get one free credit when you register, so got the info for free :cool:
