saying tarmac, which is a trade name is very generic.
bitmac asphalt etc is what we refer to it as, did you not have a written spec which stated 100mm of 40mm base course, topped off with 30mm of 6mm wearing course etc.
if the contractor doesn;t know what he laid then i dont hold out much hope.

is it spray and chip? ie: have they sprayed liquid bitumen on the existing surface and then spread chips on top?
if not ask to see the ticket from the asphalt plant they got the material from.even the gypos know the difference between the different materials available.
i presume they are a reputable contractor?

i only patch holes we dig in bitmac, or lay base with a 360 digger.
i sub in our surfacing lads to do any bitmac work leave it to the pro's, bobbi o and Dave_L or big jim are the surfacing lads on this forum.

no,its no use for a driveway.
i'm not replying again unless you post a pic. save a lot of fannying around guessing whats been laid on your drive.

It's very hot here in the UK at the moment - this is causing some problems with freshly laid tarmac drives etc - so patience is key here.
A picture would be ever so handy!
