I was impressed with the shutters

But I personally would pour a normal wall then face it with a thin layer of stone or maybe a cladding tile type

But for a quick strong job looks a good idea

Very cool.

Will those dark patches lighten though?

Also, what to do with those metal bits sticking out? Angle grind them out?

You can get formwork liners which will 'imprint' the concrete when it's poured. There are all sorts of 'textures', including ashlar stone (which never looks authentic), and the advantage is that, as each liner is only a few mm thick, you need make only very minor adjustments to your usual formwork.

Did a lot of the splash walls between brighton and salt dean with the shutter liners, liners were heavy.

How big were they, Sean? I used 2m x 2m liners on a job and recall them being less than 50kg, possibly less than 25kg.
