Anyone know of a poison i can use to kill blackthorn? Where i can buy it etc?

Was thinking of approaching a landscape outfit for some of that nuclear strength, controlled stuff?

Any ideas?

If you can get hold of it pigs urine will work, but they will have to be cut back then pour it into the wounds. There are other things too but in all cases you would need to cut the trees back.

What about grubbing them out?

there is masses of the stuff at an equestrian place im clearing, to steep and wet to get machines in and would take months to hand dig, have cut them all down and burnt the brash just need something to poison the stumps and kill the roots and any runners.

Would sodium chlorate do it?

SBK will kill it, its available in b and q and the like.

Its a common misconception that controlled stuff is somehow stronger, its just in a higher concentrated form to make storage easier and often has a few additives to make it a little more effective.

The quantity of active ingredient is often the same in both once mixed up as per instructions and people who put it on at stronger ratio's than found on the bottle are mostly just wasting their money its rarely much more effective beyond the recommended dose

You'll have to be careful with application and run off if horses are to graze it afterward or are in fields or have drinking troughs below where you are working.

You can get special parafin blow torches that you can burn the stump with to explode the cell structure.

Should have got Eddie in with his wide boy and fel mulcher head :)

Hi Giles, i thought of Eddie actually, doubt he would let his machine out self drive, would love a play on that.

In the end i got some poison and split the stumps with an axe and injected it as advised.

Where i could get in with a machine, i dug the stumps, roots and all out with the kx080 and riddle bucket, did try and get a selector grab to use on the job but couldnt find one anywhere.

Also acquired 3 8 wheelers of oak, ash and sycamore, stihl ms261c and ms661 chainsaws and 5 tonne of scrap.....gotta love site clearance work
