Boiled oil to treat oak. Never heard of that, is that applied hot?

Boiled linseed oil works a treat on cured oak. If you have spilt beams, a coating into the spilit will draw it back together ,but you have to apply daily for a fortnight.
Shame a lot of the 'old methods' are being lost, some great simple practical solutions to huge modern building problems.
