Hi all,
Does anyone know a place in Hertfordshire where I can get some big rockery rocks? I need about 50, the idea is to build up a two layer rockery between two raised beds.
They are 3 for 10 quid in the garden centres near me, I thought you guys might know a cheaper source.
The patio you helped me with is holding up well, except seeing what look like white salt stains coming through the sandstone, any way to get rid of it?
Thanks

Thanks Carberry, thats what is looks like but its sandstone, must have come through from the mortar.
Another couple of questions;
Where can I get the council slabs they use on pavements, the real thick ones?
And a delivery lorry put the foot of his lorry down on the pavement in front of my house and badly damaged it, its tarmac, Do you think they will fix it, it was rowlawn, if not am I liable, if i am whats the best way to fix it myself?
I was thinking chop it to a square then lift our damage tarmac to the subbase then fill it with a bag of tarmac from Wickes?
Thanks
Simon

in answer to your first question, there is a place on the A41 in watford, past the dome roundabout going towards london that sells rockery stone. don't know the name.
Or try Kingacre at Tring.
If the tarmac damage is in the pavement, i would leave well alone, but log onto herts highways website and log it as a fault. they will fix. they cannot prove who did the damage

Thanks Dug,
Had a look on yell it must be Winfields Yard, they seem to do Turf Soils , Sand; Compost Potting Planting; Organic Mulches; Sleepers Rockery & Stone; Aggregates ...
Just near the Toby carvery, I will have a look in there, thanks
I think youre right on the pavement, I will leave it a while, let it weather a bit then log it.
Anyone know about where to get the council slabs, the thick ones? (this is for something else not the pavement at the front)
Cheers

I'll check how many, and what size, this is for a mate in st albans who has smashed a few out side his house through doing some building work and needs to replace like for like, he said they were thicker than what he could see in any of the builders merchants, I said you lot would know.

freecycle can be handy ringi,I drove to dartford for what i thought was a tonne bag of flints only t o find a carrier bag on my arrival :O
very unlikely that they would be bigger than 2" round these parts syec, last lot i took up in harpenden i gave to an old boy at the allotments , the new ones do look very grey and smooth compared to the old ones though

if you have a phone or camera take your photies
you should have some kind of lead that will plug into your pc
connect this and a screen will pop up
copy to a folder in "my pictures"
maybe call this workpics or summat snazzy
upload photos
create a photobucket account (there are others but PB is user friendly
click on the tab that says upload now then find the folder "work pics" on your pc
select the pics you want to upload to photobucket, hold the ctrl key down to select more than 1
you will then have an album on photobucket
if you hovver your mouse over an image a drop down menu will appear
click on the image tab and click copy
come to the paving expert site
and just click paste where you would normally type
its is far less complicated than it seems and all of us struggled at first, but once you get the gist of it its easy
cheers LLL
