Ive got a job lined up to demolish a 3m x 2m x 2.5m high bomb shelter, the walls and roof are approx 300mm thick, with rebar through it.
The customer would like to know how long it would take to bring it down, the best machine I can get into the job is a 3 tonner with a pecker. Only ever brought down one of these before, and I had to give that job to a mate of mine, who ended up seriously wounding his 3cx on it (although the fact he spent 3 days smacking it with the side of a ditching bucket definitaley didnt help!)
So lads (ie Giles :p) how long do you reckon to get the fecker down? Im guessing at 2 days?

Put a picture of Gaddafi and Kim Jong Ill on the side of it, phone the FBI. It will be demolished within the hour, though they might destroy your local hospital too :p

I have done 2 bomb shelters similar to what you described stuarty ,but with 2 men and kangoes
it took 2 of us a week and 5 skips
walls were 330 mm thick and roof was 300 mm reinforced concrete
I would say a day minimum and probably 2 with the machine
3 tonner is pretty powerful with a pecker

Yep a decent 3 tonner and a quality peck with a decent operator would have it down in a day. Ear protection!

Magic, thank you lads Ear protection will be firmly stuck on, im deaf enough without worsening things! Ill be sure to take a few pics for you haggi. Im planning on putting 2 of us on the job, I will be running the rubble out, and I'll get my mate on the digger, hes getting on a bit so I like to give him the easy tasks :p

can i suggest a product called silentmite?
You drill a series of holes, pour the stuff in and twenty four hours later, the concrete its shattered. Might save some time??

Sounds good, but in my eyes would only be good for the floor slab, i wouldnt fancy having a structure cracking away all by istelf if you know what i mean

bollocks to that expanding stuff takes to long to drill all the holes at 4" centres, a decent 3 ton with a properly gassed hammer and a lad who knows what hes doing he down in a day. you on stihl saw cutting rebar etc, allow 2 for safety and maybe a third for clear up and unknown circumstances might be even thicker in the ground....etc
2 things ... no dry blows with the hammer ruins the seals
no levering with the hammer seen 8" chisels snapped off on 20 ton hammers through ppl using them like they would a kango
only use it to smash with, yeah you can pull a broken off bit with the point but dont use it as a pry bar as they are expensive

my mate owns a demo company, 46 ton machine. dont know the cost but done in an hour.

I was being a smart ass, asked my mate about transport costs and apparently you need 2no waggons as 1 low loader cannot carry the machine and all off its attachments due to the weight and its really not cheap to move around.
