Re-calimed - Using recycled products

Anyone got any opinions as to the use of re-cycled aggregates. We use a lot of type 1 crush or even re-cycled mot, plus been using Re-cycled sharp sand on some projects. Not 100% sure were they originate from entirley, but we purchase them legit and they all seem sound products. We only use the sand under block Paving, we've not used for Paving yet.
On the same note, word of warning about using Re-claim Bricks, don't there shite, judging by the number of jobs biting me back after the awful Winter we just had!!

Be careful with the recycled sand, I got a 20T load once that was full of soil and small twigs etc Took a lot of arguing to get them to come and pick it up at their cost and drop off another load of sand.

If the recycled stuff was cheap-cheap it wouldn't be too bad, but its not much difference to mot, had nearly all dust on one site, it threw it down for a day and it turned to sponge :laugh:
Good point about reclaimed bricks, didnt think of the face blowing off / cracking with the frost etc.

We're very lucky in that we have a merchant/ waste transfer site/ quarry a mile from our yard, the Recycled Mot1 is great quality at the moment, its improved a lot over the last year. They also have a quarry and crush their own sandstone into a nice grit sand for laying flags at Â£12 per ton. I've just tried their eco glass sand for a driveway, seemed to go down nice and firm so will probably use it from now on.

I was quoted Â£17.50/t for an 8t load of recycled type 1 from our skip company. Not used it before. Good company so should be ok.

We pay about Â£10.00 a tonne picked up or Â£15 delivered, and the recycled's good quality. The Crush can get a bit shite, but we only use for deep infills, layeringit and wetting it down if needed.

we got done day before good friday
rang up for 10 tonnes of type 1 MOT
guy says we have some beautiful crushed concrete here for half the money
the tipped it while i wasnt there and it was total garbage, mud roof tiles, cement bags,timber lathes,wall tiles,battens
anyway cue many irate calls and they sent a grab lorry out to pick it up at 7pm that night and the next day 10 tonne of type1 MOT arrived at 7 AM
I wont name them here as basically as soon as they realised their mistake they pulled out all the stops to put it right
apparently the usual yardman was on paternity leave and 1 of the other lads had loaded it from the wrong pile,the DIYer pile :;):
so in essence if it mights the criteria yes its fine

We've got lots of local quarries so don't bother with any recycled sub base or sand

i used the glass about 4 years ago in swansea and it hasn't budged also found it drains quickly and dosen't go fluid in heavy rain

Yeah it was. You run in to problems with them too? The best part was when I ordered the sand they said it wasn't recycled, that it was all good quality and comes straight from the quarry etc

I got done the same about a 18 months ago, a local company was offering free load of "MoT" with every Grab load, they took the load, and came back with the "MoT" after we'd gone. In the morning we came back, saw a massive pile of rubble and crap on the Drive and Road and spent the morning rowing on the phone to get it picked up. They bought us back the real stuff as well, 15cube for free!! :rock:
