Legally, pretty much all that is legally available nowadays is Glyphosate/ Roundup.
Only lasts for a month or two though. Most commercial Grounds teams are now spraying upwards of 6-8 times a season, compared to 2-3 with a range of chemicals to work with
Nowhere near as good as the old residual Casoron/Embargo granules.

Rosate 36 if you can get it. Farm/equestrian/smallholder suppliers have it normally in 20ltr tubs. 20 - 40 ml per litre so should last a while.

i can get hold of sodium chlorate off ebay and some other stuff called "groundclear long lasting" but I am worried they may taint the ground
digging couch grass out is such a chore

Cover unused areas in dpm. Can you buy 20 ltr of concentrated glyphostae based weedkiller these days or has that avenue of pleasure also been closed? I'm sure those chemicals you metioned take a while to break down LLL.

Sodium Chlorate banning from sale was a great loss to the industry

I cover mine in terram, go for an old pedestrianised plough off the flea bay, I use an old Clifford MK1 on mine (1955) turns the soil a treat, get nice new earth for planting then by time the grass has re established itself, the potatoes are up and crowd it out :;):

We used a Dowdeswell at college many years ago. F*****g thing had so much power it ended up owning me. Great once mastered though.

if you're planning on growing veg i would never use chemicals. Turn the ground with a tiller or rotavator and add plenty of poo then cover with fabric and cut holes where you're sowing or planting out. Take the fabric off after cropping and mulch with more poo and leave for the winter. All it needs is hoeing now and again.

Paraquat was superb when used properly it was banned around 2001 because to many farmers were committing suicide with it. Drink a cup full and you'd have irreversible organ failure.
