evening chaps,
i have got to fill in an 8m x 3.5m koi pond that is approx 1.5m deep.
im not sure what is best to fill it in with ie harcore then topsoil or just top soil.
i will compact it down as i go but just not sure on the best mix?

you really need to make sure that the liner and or concrete base is sufficiently broken, otherwise your pond will return in a bog format
you could use hardcore if you have some available but the top 300-450 mm needs to be half decent soil

id try and install a land drain as well if you can but yeah good big hardcore then cap of with smaller stuff then your layer of top soil, lots of compaction with whacker, or bucket on a big machine.

thanks boys, i will definatly break up the bottom to allow drainage,& do a decent layer of hardcore & cap this off then about 400mm of top soil. hopefully compacting this a i go should minimise any future settlement.

it always settle a bit so maybe mound the soil a little higher to allow for settlement
