Hi,

First off I just want to say what a great website this is.

I'm looking to lay my own gravel driveway after having a number of quotes. The area is roughly 35 square metres. I'm looking to dig out approx 12.5cm and lay 7.5 mot 1 sub base and 5 cm of gravel does this sound fair?

We live on an unadopted road which is a combination of gravel, soil and pot holes.

I was look to lay this between the road and my driveway
Bradstone Flat Top Edging Charcoal Effect (L)91.4 x (W)15 x (T)1.5cm

Do you think this will be ok, I was planning on putting this on top of the subbase and then laying the gravel up to it but was wondering how I could secure. If this is the wrong way what should I use or do?

Any help or pointers would be great.

Thanks in advance.

you gravel will migrate, you need a solid 450mm crossover of setts or block paving
concrete edgings need to be laid vertical for maximum strength with 100mm in the concrete

Hi,

Sorry, can you put that in laymans terms. Sorry if I'm being thick as I've never done anything like this before. Are the measurements I'm digging out ok?

What would i need to do for the edging?

Thanks again

Hi brummie. I think what LLL is trying to say is,...you can't lay the edgings flat, they need to be upright and on a good concrete bedding. An edging course of about 450 laid on concrete, will act to retain the stone, so that it does'nt scatter ( migrate ) as much. you need to dig out 150 to 200 ml and place a sub base of 100/150 and 25/40ml of gravel. Hope this is clearer as, LLL has had a few shants

Hi,

Thanks, so if I dig out 15cm which is the width of the edge and secure it with concrete, how is it best to secure it? Do you know of any examples online?

These probably sound basic questions but this is my first time. What size gravel do you think is best? 10,15?

Thanks

thanks, I can't see any reference to what lll has mentioned? In your opinion what size would you use? Thanks
