The Brew Cabin

Hi all,

Well life in the cheese factory is great but Im missing the muck. So the garage base I was on about last year has been brought forward to this year (due to economic climate, not as I'm a lazy sod).

One major problem I need advice on is access.

To the rear of our house is a bit of a nature reserve thinngy, there is access along the rear of the houses via an old MOT type track, lots of room . Its just the ally way off the road. It measures just about 9ft at the tightest point. The concrete wagon measures 9.5ft (am I right?) I only need 3m cube for this job, so a small one will do, but their based on a 'big' truck chassis ,so I'm lead to believe.
I don't want to go down the pump route (expense) Will it end up being the back of a tipper and driven around?
Mixing on site is marginally cheaper than the wagon, but theres the problem of batching and labouring.
Also, do you recommend fibres included in the mix? Can add to the strength but does it detract from the finish of the floor?

hire a 1 ton dumper, its a few more trips forward and back but gets the job done

Using the latest CAD package, Ive assimilated this (only just) not to scale drawing.
The garage is on the bottom left, access 1 is just 9ft access 2 is alot wider, but again comes to 9 ft at the pinch point.

if it comes to it, I have a tipper ready to go, so a dumper wont be necessary. Just wondered if I had explored every possibility. Seemed to me this must be a common problem as most rear access has this dimension (8ft).

we normally use a barrowmix company,with 3 men pushing you can get 3 cube in in around an hour and a half
lot cheaper than pumps,but as has been said small dumper is what you need
btw you have an artistic flair there hen, have you finished that book yet? its just the daughter needs her felts back

Considering my offer from RICS but I think I'm going to turn them down

Usually with a common problem like this, theres a simple work around eg. using a measured stick instead of a dumpy to get good levels on brick work.
Look like its a bit of sweat on this one.

Would you recommend fibres in the mix? or will that affect the concretes finish?

fibres are helpful but rebar is best
you can burn the fibres off the surface with a blowtorch

Ah! Now it makes sense

Nice one. Was going to rebar it anyway, just thought the fibres would make a good addition, looks like overkill then?

Access
